WHAT

Enable care givers to create bespoke aids for activities of daily living via 3D scanning, 3D design and 3D printing.

doel2

GOALS

  1. Improve the quality of life of individuals in need of bespoke aids for daily activities by lowering the barrier to use advanced design and manufacturing techniques that enable innovative, customized solutions.
  2. Make new digital technologies more accessible to healthcare organizations by offering them an easy-to-use digital workflow for the design and printing of bespoke aids, including guidelines for sizing, design, manufacturing and finishing.
  3. Create new partnerships between healthcare organizations (hospitals, healthcare facilities, patient organizations, etc.) and technology companies (software developers, 3D printing services, etc.) by actively involving them in 35 cases.
  4. Educate and engage students by integrating the project results and tools into courses, organizing workshops and organizing makeathons with students from different programs.

RELEVANCE

Persons with physical disabilities (e.g., due to stroke, rheumatoid arthritis, etc.) and persons with moderate, severe, or profound intellectual disabilities often need assistive devices to perform daily activities. Currently, these individuals usually use prefabricated aids. Interviews with various (ergo)therapists have shown that these aids are often not (sufficiently) customized. Within the Assist3D project, we enable care givers to create bepoke aids for daily activities via 3D scanning, 3D design and 3D printing.
